It also has a complete 3D engine that supports most common 3D model formats. AND linux is not required, you can use this on windows. for those unfamiliar with basic, its one of the easiest programing languages to learn.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2016883064517665876.post-68191826580320301972009-05-23T00:25:54.843+01:002009-05-23T00:25:54.843+01:00The problem I have with this review, and the probl...The problem I have with this review, and the problem I have with most of what I've read about the GP2X, is that virtually all discussion is about the GP2X as a development platform for homebrew games.

The painful reality is that most homebrew games really suck. Sorry, but it's true. The best "homebrew" games are usually mods of commercial games like CounterStrike and MUGEN. We don't need another badly-coded Tetris clone.

So, realistically, most of the interest in this platform has to do with emulators and multimedia features. And that where my questions lie:

What emulators are supported on the GP2X? How functional are they compared to fully-developed x86 emulators? Given the layout I'm thinking SNES and Sega Genesis would be good targets.

What media formats does the media player support? Can it do H.264?

What formats does the comic book reader support? Will it do .CBR?

Will the e-book reader do PDF?rtechiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00614996956940207359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2016883064517665876.post-75089451495049736662009-05-21T15:38:10.461+01:002009-05-21T15:38:10.461+01:00Hey Johnnie!
You know, I think that I would start ...Hey Johnnie!
You know, I think that I would start with just some basic SDL (http://www.libsdl.org/) coding. If you make a SDL program that uses 320x240 resolution, it should be VERY easy to get it running on the Wiz. There are lots of people that develop for PC, Linux, etc. with SDL, and therefore there are many examples and tutorials around.

If you want to stick with free tools, I'd recommend getting and setting up the Code::Blocks environment (http://codeblocks.org/).

For GP2X/Wiz info, check here first http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Main_Page . There's a section on that page about development, though some of the info may be a bit outdated. Check this out to get setup to build stuff for the GP2X/Wiz (http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Installing_the_Open2x_toolchain).

I hope that helps. If it's not enough, head over to www.gp32x.com and post questions there.Flavorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05320497671312635730noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2016883064517665876.post-68701519552353632372009-05-21T09:03:17.367+01:002009-05-21T09:03:17.367+01:00I love the review. Great review, thanks.
One really disturbing thing is gp2xwiz.com doesn't have truly english version, for example when I click on firmware upgrade banner, all text there is in korean and I have to use translate.google.com. The emu was generally running at 15 fps (depending on the game) on the f200. With 2.7x the processor speed (15x the PSX) and now 3d acceleration (3.7x more poly/s than the PSX) I should hope it runs close to 100%. If that still doesn't work, we can always try the recompiling approach...

On a homebrew note, does anyone know what OpenGL library the Wiz is using? is it Vincent? When is the SDK going to be released? That 3D trailer on youtube had me drooling. Any info on the 3D sdk would be greatly appreciated.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00181221883785252412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2016883064517665876.post-33250554106975506292009-05-13T20:10:00.000+01:002009-05-13T20:10:00.000+01:00Hey Flavor thanks for the help ^^ im going to go s...Hey Flavor thanks for the help ^^ im going to go see the video Robert ^_^ I hope that people dont forget about the Wiz cause all i see online is people talk about Pandora ;_; makes me sad cause its times 2 the price of GP2X Wiz...i hope the Wiz can hold it downDanny Xnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2016883064517665876.post-14369202731950948762009-05-13T19:35:00.000+01:002009-05-13T19:35:00.000+01:00Great review! Though, it seems like they have made it specific for systems (like the one you're using is for Windows). It would be tough to get it working on the Wiz. You may be able to use an emulator to get some version of RPG Maker (like maybe one for the GBA) to run in an emulator.

I did a bit of searching, and there are things like http://easyrpg.sourceforge.net/ that may work out for you. It's really tough to say without just trying.Flavorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05320497671312635730noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2016883064517665876.post-49960927155658412132009-05-13T14:32:00.000+01:002009-05-13T14:32:00.000+01:00sure you can run psx on this badboy :)
